COSMIC ANNIHILATOR: a new solo project by Mark Cullen Mark Cullen was born in Dublin in 1972, and has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally. 'COSMIC ANNIHILATOR' is an installation environment situated in a social housing block that explores themes of enclosure, claustrophobia and escape to fantasy. The interior space of the housing unit has been reconfigured and reimagined in order to allow its notional inhabitant release from the flats domestic and social context. The flats interior has been totally restructured, with new passages erected throughout the apartment, ceilings lowered, and light sources altered, replaced or blackened out, presenting the viewer with a space that invites cautious exploration in order to discover the hidden complexity of the work. Recent shows
have included Looking for the Good Life, Draíocht, Dublin, EV+A
at Limerick City Gallery, SITED at the Dublin FRINGE Festival, Gasworks
Open, Gasworks, London and a two person show in The Ashford Gallery, RHA,
Dublin. Cullen is currently studying on the MA in Visual Arts Practices
at DLIADT. |
