Show Kitchen
Show Bedroom
Show Sittingroom
The artist has
orchestrated each photograph and also performs within them. Each photograph
shows the artist performing basic living within the showrooms. This 'living'
is done within a confined space using the basic props necessary to fulfil
the task at hand. Each task relates to the functional purpose of each
showroom. Kitchen: cooking; Bedroom: sleeping; Sitting room: sitting.
Showrooms have been used to portray desired ideals of living presented
as everyday in media (Tv, film, advertisements). In order to sustain these
ideals the individual must avoid leaving evidence of life or usage. Thus,
the individual allows less and less space for their living. The individual's
living has become subordinate to the maintenance of the ideal. Therefore,
the individual has become subordinate to the ideal.
