Statement:
My work attempts to consider sexualised imagery from a cotemporary feminine
perspective.
With a basis in Popular Culture, the growing popularity of sexualised
imagery in general culture, and the
atmosphere an artist can create in order to influence the mood of the
imagery, my work can be seen as an
investigation into a post feminist society. The popularity of the page
3 girl, kiss and tell imagery and
the re-emergence of burlesque groups reveals how contemporary women have
a desire to be considered
sexually appealing. By using props which are fashionable and appealing
to women, but by still creating
provocative images, it is my aim to encourage discussion as to where feminism
can fit-in in an image
obsessed materialistically driven society, or if it, in fact, has been
forgotten in favour of the
benefits which can be received from appearing sexually attractive.
It is not my intention to judge people who enjoy appearing provocative,
and this, primarily is why
I am the subject throughout the majority of my images. There is a certain
electricity that radiates from
sexualised imagery, with elements of the forbidden, the rebellious, and
the intimate which makes these
images exciting to look at. This show reflects the tone of obsession and
intrigue which comes from
viewing other people's privacy.
